Restorative Dental Treatments

A restorative procedure is any treatment that’s used to fix a damaged tooth. There are multiple options available for decayed, broken, weak, and infected teeth. The sooner you treat these issues, the more conservative the restorative procedure will be. We can also replace teeth that were previously extracted. Woo Dental offers the following restorative treatments:

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a full-coverage “cap”, made from a strong material such as porcelain or zirconia, that fits over your tooth to protect it.

Crowns are used to restore teeth that are decayed, broken, or weak ー like those that have been treated with a root canal.

To prep a tooth for a crown, our Jersey City dentist will reduce the thickness of your enamel, making room for the crown to fit over it without being too bulky. Once your tooth is prepped, we will take an impression of it for our dental lab to use while they make your custom, permanent crown.

We’ll fit you with a temporary crown to wear in the meantime. Once your permanent one has arrived from the lab (which generally takes a couple of weeks), we’ll have you return for a final appointment in which we’ll remove the temporary and place your permanent one on with a very strong and long-lasting cement.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

For smaller areas of decay, a full-coverage crown isn’t necessary. In this case, we’ll usually just place a small filling.

For this procedure, we remove the cavity from the tooth, prep the tooth by adding a few cleaning and bonding solutions to it, then insert the moldable filling material and shape it to the desired look. Then we use a special light to harden the filling material.

Tooth-colored fillings are natural-looking but they are strong enough to last for several years.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is used to replace a missing tooth. Your implant is essentially an artificial tooth root, made from medical-grade titanium and placed in the jaw, next to your other teeth. After placement, your implant will need to integrate with the bone before we can affix a permanent crown to it. But in the meantime, we can usually place a temporary restoration so that you don’t have a visibly missing tooth.

With dental implants, you don’t have to worry about developing cavities. This restoration is very reliable and can potentially last the rest of your lifetime. The biggest thing that you want to avoid when you have dental implants, is developing gum disease, as this condition can weaken the bone that holds your implant in place.

Not all general dentists perform dental implants because they can be a complex process. But this treatment is one of Dr. Woo’s favorites to perform. Over the past 7 years, he has performed well over 1,500 implant surgeries.

Endodontic Therapy (Root Canals)

Each tooth has a nerve inside of it, with a nerve canal that runs through the length of the root(s). When your nerve becomes infected or is damaged, it can abscess or die. A root canal is necessary to remove the compromised nerve tissue inside of each root. We will clean out the nerve chambers, seal them off to prevent reinfection, and then place a crown on top of your non-vital tooth.

Bone Grafting

When you have a tooth removed, an opening is left inside of your bone. Over time, this socket area will fill in with new bone but it may not be dense enough to support an implant. When we remove teeth, we recommend that you have a bone graft placed in the extraction site. The grafted bone will integrate with your body’s natural bone and after a few weeks, you’ll have a stable foundation for an implant tooth replacement.

Sedation Options Available

At Woo Dental, we understand that having dental treatment completed can be nerve-wracking for some people. Dr. Woo gladly offers sedation dentistry to help you relax.

If you just want a mild analgesic, then we can use nitrous sedation (laughing gas). But if your anxiety is high and you prefer to tune things out, then we may recommend oral conscious sedation.

If you’re hesitant about having dental treatment, make sure to mention it to Dr. Woo during your examination. We will be happy to discuss your concerns and plan ahead to provide you with the best experience option.
