Invisalign Clear Orthodontics

If you have crooked or crowded teeth, then Invisalign clear appliance therapy can straighten your smile and give you the confidence that you’ve always wanted.

Invisalign is an invisible alternative to traditional metal braces, making it very popular among adults and teens. Invisalign uses rigid, clear plastic trays that fit over your teeth to slowly coax them into the proper position. Each set of aligners is worn for two weeks at a time, for a minimum of 22 hours per day. Every pair of trays differs slightly in shape from the others, which shows the transition that your teeth will take over the course of your treatment.

The length of Invisalign treatment will depend on how much movement your teeth need overall, but the process is typically the same or faster than wearing braces. Most patients will complete their orthodontic treatment in under 18 months, some as soon as 6 months.

Invisalign also makes cleaning your teeth much easier than with braces. Since the aligners are removable, you can brush and floss your teeth like normal, eliminating the need to maneuver around stubborn wires and brackets.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are the most popular type of cosmetic dentistry treatment. This procedure consists of reducing the thickness of the surface of your front teeth to make room for the veneers, which are thin shells of porcelain that are cemented permanently to the front of those applicable teeth.

Veneers can improve the appearance of stained enamel, gaps, crooked, and crowded teeth. As well as small or chipped teeth.

When completing a full smile makeover, we usually recommend treating the front 6-10 teeth, depending on how wide your smile is. Our Jersey City dentist only recommends treating the upper front teeth, as placing veneers on lower teeth doesn’t usually work well because of how your teeth fit together.

When taken care of properly, porcelain veneers can last for many years, with the average lifespan being between 10-20 years. To prolong the life of your veneers, be sure to floss them daily and schedule routine dental visits. Also, if you can avoid biting into hard foods or using your teeth as a tool (like to bite your fingernails or open packages), then you’ll increase your chances of your veneers lasting as long as it should.

Zirconia Dental Crowns

Zirconia dental crowns ultimately look like porcelain veneers but zirconia is a stronger material, making this a good solution for someone that has a strong bite or is rough on their teeth. Zirconia can also withstand grinding and clenching better than porcelain.

Crowns cover the entire tooth (front and back), not just the front like veneers do. Meaning that they are thicker and protect your teeth better if you have fractures, cracks, or cavities.

The process for getting zirconia crowns vs. porcelain veneers is nearly identical, except that with crowns, our Jersey City dentist needs to remove a bit more of the enamel to make more room.

Zirconia crowns can potentially last longer than veneers, since they are made from a stronger material.

Sedation Options Available

Sedation dentistry is available for our patients that plan to undergo cosmetic dentistry makeovers. Whether you’re getting veneers or crowns, the process can sometimes be lengthy, and being sedated will help to keep you in a relaxed state and make the time go by faster.

We offer two popular types of sedation to choose from: nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral conscious sedation.

Nitrous gas, commonly referred to as laughing gas or nitrous oxide, helps you feel lighthearted and more comfortable. It’s administered in gas form through a soft mask that you wear over your nose. Nitrous oxide works very quickly and doesn’t have any lingering effects. When we are finished with your procedure, we’ll turn off the sedative and have you breathe pure oxygen for a few minutes. Once you feel back to normal, you’ll be released into your own care.

If you prefer a bit deeper form of sedation, then oral conscious sedation may be the better option for you. This medication is administered orally, in pill form. The effects are somewhat similar to taking the combination of a Xanax and a sleeping pill. There is an amnesic effect, meaning that it’s likely you won’t have much recollection of the process, which is something that a lot of people prefer. Not all, but many patients, end up sleeping throughout the procedure.
